‘Hundreds’ of Pro-Abortion Rights Protesters Gather

A crowd of people gather outside the Supreme Court, early Tuesday, May 3, 2022 in Washington. A draft opinion circulated among Supreme Court justices suggests that earlier this year a majority of them had thrown support behind overturning the 1973 case Roe v. Wade that legalized abortion nationwide, according to a report published Monday night in Politico. It’s unclear if the draft represents the court’s final word on the matter. The Associated Press could not immediately confirm the authenticity of the draft Politico posted, which if verified marks a shocking revelation of the high court’s secretive deliberation process, particularly before a case is formally decided. Pro-abortion rights protesters marched in downtown Denver, Colorado, on May 3, following the publication of a leaked draft Supreme Court opinion that would overturn the landmark Roe v Wade decision protecting abortion rights.

Footage recorded by Adam Becker shows protesters marching on West Colfax Avenue near the Colorado State Capitol on Tuesday evening. Protesters can be seen carrying signs reading “Bans Off Our Bodies” and “Abortions Forever.” Local media reported that “hundreds of people” turned up for two pro-abortion rights rallies. Protests sprung up across the US after the draft opinion was leaked on Monday. Abortion rights are protected in Colorado by the Reproductive Health Equity Act, which was signed into law on April 4.
