Medea Charitable Foundation hosted its first “Draft & Dine” Fundraiser event in San Francisco on November 20, 2023. The event brought out a cadre of celebrities, sports legends, and local influencers and business leaders who came out to support local youth causes at Mission Bay Wine & Cheese. Invited guests were offered the opportunity to bid on dinner with one of the celebrities who volunteered their time to dine with attending guests. Each winning bid resulting in a group of 8-10 guests to immediately dine at several top nearby award-winning restaurants in the city, which included Alexander’s Steakhouse, La Mar, Morton’s Steakhouse, One Market, Ozumo and Waterbar.
The main attraction was NBA legend and Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal, who was the celebrity headliner attraction for the night’s auction. Additional celebrities who participated include Dusty Baker, former MLB All-Star Greg Vaughn, Winemaker Dan Kosta, former Oakland Athletic pitcher legend Dave Stewart, Hall of Fame MLB player Eddie Murray, and former San Francisco Giant Randy Winn. The guest list of attendees included CEO’s and executives from sports, tech, banking, charitable foundations, construction, film and media. There was a special sighting of baseball icon Barry Bonds at the night’s festivities.
Medea Charitable Foundation (MCF) is headed by Randy Winn, a former MLB All-Star outfielder who played 14 years in the majors. In speaking with Winn we asked him about they types of organizations that benefit from contributions from his foundation. Winn stated “Matching with our mission statement, we focus on groups that use athletics to create a well-rounded child. We want to see kids outside exercise, but also developing characteristics that will make them a well-rounded adult too.” He followed up by saying ” I was very excited about the overall turn out and engagement at the event. To be honest, attracting a large crowd was never our goal. The event inherently was create to be an intimate group.
The auction ultimately tens of thousands of dollars for local non-profits that align with Medea’s core mission.
