Ava DuVernay has released a new series, Naomi, with hopes of inspiring future generations of Black girl superheroes. The CW series will follow a young Black girl, obsessed with Superman, who discovers she has super powers of her own.

DuVernay explained her reasoning behind the show on twitter saying, “I was asked why I’m doing a show on the CW about a Black girl learning that she’s actually a superhero.

Because I want there to be a show about a Black girl learning that she’s actually a superhero. And then being a great one.” Naomi is now playing on the CW.
