50 Years Ago Today, Shirley Chisholm Sworn In As The First Black Congresswoman

Shirley Chisholm was sworn in as the nation’s first Black Congresswoman 50 years ago today on January 3, 1969. 

Two years later she became a founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus.
